David M. Wert

David M. Wert, PT, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Doctor of Physical Therapy Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Physical Therapy and contributes to the DPT-PhD in Bioengineering program.

Dr. Wert's research focuses on the scholarship of teaching and learning and holistic admissions. His work explores how exercise-based interventions enhance long-term physical activity sustainability in older adults, motor control-based group exercise delivery by lay leaders, and the impact of portable metabolic measurement devices on gait characteristics.

He has been recognized with the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Dean’s Distinguished Teaching Award, emphasizing his commitment to fostering lifelong learning in physical therapy students. Dr. Wert is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
