David Lloyd

Adjunct Associate Professor David Lloyd is affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University. With a PhD from SCU (2005) and an MSc from Monash University, he bridges academic and practical expertise in environmental science and community development.

Research Interests
Dr. Lloyd specializes in beekeeping for sustainable livelihoods, focusing on improving smallholder enterprises in Papua New Guinea and Fiji through technical, business, and marketing innovations. His work integrates indigenous knowledge systems into natural area management, exemplified by the documentary Saltwater People. He also investigates community responses to environmental challenges like coal-seam gas mining and marine conservation.

Publications & Projects
Recent research spans landuse conflicts, coffee economies in Timor-Leste, and cross-cultural communication in environmental planning. He manages major ACIAR projects addressing beekeeping sustainability and disease control.

Awards
Recipient of the QLD Division Alan Rixon Memorial Prize and Medal (2015).

Teaching & Outreach
Lectures in Protected Area Management and contributes weekly science segments to ABC Radio, demonstrating exceptional science communication skills.
