Professor David Lambert is a leading scholar in Caribbean History and Imperial Studies at the University of Warwick, serving as a Professor in the Department of History within the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on empire, race, warfare, and slavery in the Caribbean and Atlantic world, with interdisciplinary contributions to historical geography and postcolonial studies. He directs the Centre for Arts Doctoral Research Excellence and co-leads initiatives like the Midlands4Cities AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership.
His academic roles include editorships of Slavery & Abolition and collaborations with institutions like the British Library and Royal Botanic Gardens. Key publications include Soldiers of Uncertain Rank (2024), Mastering the Niger (2013), and White Creole Culture (2005). He advises multiple postgraduate students researching topics ranging from Caribbean foodways to colonial military networks.
Professor Lambert’s honors include the Templer Medal for his 2024 book and a nomination for the Young Academic Author award. His teaching covers courses on revolutionary Caribbean history, slavery’s legacy, and global historiography.
