David L. McFadden is a Professor of Chemistry and Co-Chair of Undergraduate Chemistry Studies at Boston College. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His research focuses on the kinetics and dynamics of free radical and electron attachment reactions in the gas phase, with contributions to understanding reaction mechanisms and product analysis in complex systems. He actively shapes undergraduate education through curriculum development and research opportunity programs.
Research Interests:
- Gas-phase reaction dynamics
- Electron attachment processes
- Free radical kinetics
- Metastable atomic species analysis
Key Publications: Three seminal articles published in J. Phys. Chem. explore gas-phase radical kinetics (1990), electron attachment to organometallic compounds (1989), and metastable nitrogen atom studies via ESR (1981).
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship (1977).
Teaching & Advising: Instructs physical chemistry, introductory chemistry, and advanced instrumentation laboratory courses. No explicitly listed advisees.
