David L. Green

David L. Green is Associate Professor in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Virginia, with joint appointments in Chemical Engineering and Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering. His research focuses on nanoparticle synthesis and assembly for functional materials.

Key investigations include: design of uniform nanoparticles with controlled surface chemistry; rheological behavior of polymer-grafted nanoparticles in solutions and melts; and fundamental relationships between interparticle interactions, microstructure, and macroscopic properties. His group combines synthesis, characterization, and modeling to engineer colloidal systems with tailored properties.

Recognized with an NSF CAREER Award (2007-2012), his work has applications in coatings, composites, and responsive materials. Recent publications examine ligand phase separation on nanoparticle surfaces and rheological modifications in polymer nanocomposites.
