David Kyed is a Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, affiliated with the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) and leading the Topology, Algebra, Analysis and Geometry (TAAG) research section. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Copenhagen (2008), postdoctoral positions at the University of Göttingen and KU Leuven, and a transition to SDU as an assistant professor (2013), associate professor (2015), and full professor (2021).
His research interests lie at the intersection of
- Operator Algebras
- Quantum Groups
- L²-Betti Numbers
- Noncommutative Geometry
- Geometric Group Theory
- Quantum Metric Spaces
His recent publications focus on quantum metric structures, convergence of quantum spaces, and cohomological properties, reflecting a deep engagement with noncommutative geometry and quantum symmetries. He has received significant scientific funding, including grants from the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Carlsberg Foundation. Kyed has also organized major conferences such as the NSeaG Workshop (2024) and the Nest Celebration (2022).
As a supervisor, he has mentored PhD students Max Holst Mikkelsen and Thomas Gotfredsen, and collaborates closely with Jens Kaad on quantum metric spaces. His work combines abstract operator algebraic theory with concrete geometric and quantum mechanical applications.
