David K. Russell is a Senior Lecturer at Otis College of Art and Design and Loyola Marymount University, specializing in the intersection of public art and community engagement. His work focuses on ethical strategies for community collaboration, the politics of art in public spaces, and critical pedagogy.
- Education: M.F.A. in Public Practice (Otis College of Art and Design, 2011), K-12 Art Education licensure (Metropolitan State College of Denver, 2001), B.F.A. in Painting/Art History (University of Tulsa, 1998).
His research examines urban modernization, gentrification, and the role of art in social transformation, informed by fieldwork in Los Angeles. He co-founded the Mobile Mural Lab (MML), a mobile art space dedicated to mural education and production in LA communities.
- Scientific Awards: LA Times Culture Guide Editors' Choice (2010), LA Weekly Best Mobile Art Project (2014), LA High School Principal's Award (2016).
Russell’s work has been featured in Hometown News, LAX COASTAL Magazine, and Professional Artist Magazine, including his article 'How to Win a Residency' by Judith Teitleman (2016). He also participated in the Great Wall of L.A. Mural Restoration Team (2011) and the Richmond College study abroad program in Florence (1996/97).
