David K. O’Connor is a Professor of Philosophy and Classics at the University of Notre Dame, holding dual appointments in both departments. His research focuses on ancient philosophy, ethics, aesthetics, and philosophy of religion. He is a Faculty Fellow and teaches courses on classical thought, modern love, and the intersection of philosophy with literature and art.
Education:
- BA, University of Notre Dame, 1980
- PhD, Stanford University, 1985
His work bridges ancient and modern themes, exemplified by his popular online lectures on love and sexuality, which informed his books Plato’s Bedroom and the Chinese-translated Love is Barefoot Philosophy. He explores how classical philosophy informs contemporary ethics and artistic expression.
Dr. O’Connor’s interdisciplinary approach connects philosophy with literature, examining how ancient texts like Plato’s dialogues continue to shape modern discourse on morality, art, and human relationships.
