David Joseph Burn is a Lecturer and head of the Early Music Research Group at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven). He specializes in medieval and Renaissance music studies, focusing on polyphony, liturgical music, and music-theology interactions during the Reformation. His research encompasses music source analysis, textual criticism, and the musical institutions of Imperial lands.
Education: He holds a D.Phil. (2002) and Master of Studies (1998) in Music from Oxford University, alongside a First Class B.A. in Music (1997). His doctoral work examined Henricus Isaac's mass propers under Prof. Reinhard Strohm.
Research Grants: He led major projects such as 'New Perspectives on Polyphony' (€1.9M, 2011) and 'IDEM: Integrated Database for Early Music' (€250K, 2010). Current projects include the FWF-funded 'Musical Life in the Late Middle Ages in the Austrian Region' and editorial roles for the New Isaac Edition and Journal of the Alamire Foundation.
