David Jensen is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky's Department of Mathematics. He holds affiliations with the UK Math Lab and has been a postdoc at Stony Brook University and Yale. His research focuses on the geometry of algebraic curves, tropical geometry, and nonarchimedean analytic spaces. He has advised 4 PhD students and currently mentors 3 more.
- PhD: University of Texas at Austin (2010), advised by Sean Keel
- Postdoc: Stony Brook University (2010–2013), Yale (2013–2014)
Research Interests:
- Brill-Noether Theory
- Tropical Geometry and Moduli Spaces
- Graph Gonality and Chip Firing
- Nonarchimedean Analytic Spaces
Recent work explores combinatorial approaches to algebraic geometry, including chip-firing games on graphs and tropical linear series. His articles often bridge combinatorics and classical algebraic geometry, focusing on moduli spaces, divisor theory, and geometric constructions.
He has been involved in undergraduate research programs like the UK Math Lab and SUMRY at Yale, mentoring over 20 students. His teaching spans courses from calculus to advanced topics like algebraic geometry and tropical Brill-Noether theory.
Labs/Teams: Leads the UK Math Lab, fostering undergraduate research in algebraic geometry and combinatorics.
