David J. Riesbeck serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Purdue University's Cornerstone Integrated Liberal Arts Program with concurrent affiliations in Philosophy and Classics. His office is located in BRNG 2235 and he may be contacted at driesbec@purdue.edu or by phone at 6-4046.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Ancient Philosophy, University of Texas at Austin (Joint Classics and Philosophy Graduate Program)
Research Focus: Riesbeck specializes in ancient Greek ethical frameworks and political theory, with concentrated scholarship on Aristotle's contributions to political community formation. His work extends through Platonic dialogues, Sophist thought, and subsequent developments in moral philosophy across historical periods. This research trajectory culminated in his monograph Aristotle on Political Community (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and numerous scholarly articles examining classical philosophical foundations.
Teaching Portfolio: He maintains extensive pedagogical experience across philosophy, classical literature, Greek, and Latin curricula at diverse academic levels, most recently instructing philosophy and literature to high school seniors in Tempe, Arizona prior to his Purdue appointment.
