David J. Ketchen, Jr. is the Harbert Eminent Scholar and Professor of Management within Auburn University's Harbert College of Business, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship. He joined the Auburn faculty in 2006 and has established himself as a leading scholar with research cited over 65,000 times.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Business Administration with concentration in strategic management, Penn State University, 1994

Ketchen's research centers on the intersection of strategic management, supply chain management, and entrepreneurship. His work examines how organizational structure, entrepreneurship, and strategic decisions impact business performance. He has published more than 200 articles in academic journals, with several studies featured in the Wall Street Journal. His research has practical applications, as demonstrated when his expertise helped Raytheon win an $11.2 billion contract.
His scholarly contributions span diverse areas within business management, with recent work focusing on board composition, organizational performance, and entrepreneurial strategies. Ketchen has served in editorial roles for ten academic journals, co-edited twenty-six special issues, and served on fifteen editorial review boards.

Ketchen is deeply committed to mentoring students and supporting entrepreneurship. He has advised numerous students, including Renee Floyd who started BRF Mobile Lube Services and Harrison Evola who operates FetchMe delivery service. He has spoken pro bono about entrepreneurship for military veterans and serves on the board of directors for the Why Not Win Institute. His grant activities include participation in the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans and the Brewers Association Mentoring Program.
He is a key contributor to Auburn's Brewing Science and Operations Program, having developed online courses on Franchising and Winning Skills for Success. Ketchen also co-developed Auburn's online Master of Science in Brewing Science and Operations and Graduate Certificate in Brewing Science and Operations.
