David J. Jae-Seok Hwang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University. He leads the Laser Thermal Engineering Laboratory (Laser Solar PV Lab) and is affiliated with the Advanced Energy Research & Technology Center.
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of California Berkeley (2005)
- M.S.E. and B.S.E. from Seoul National University (1997, 1995)
His research focuses on micro/nanoscale heat transfer, laser-assisted materials processing, and diagnostics for photovoltaic systems. Key projects include hybrid additive manufacturing of thermoelectric generators, ultraviolet-assisted thermal device engineering, and scalable nanomanufacturing for solar applications.
Recent publications highlight expertise in laser scribing, micro-LED efficiency optimization, and super-insulating composite materials. Awards include the 2017 Journal of Thermal Spray Technology Best Paper Award.
