David J. Horn is a Professor of Biology in the School of Biological & Environmental Studies at Millikin University and a Co-Founder of Millikin’s Institute for Science Entrepreneurship. He has been at Millikin since Fall 2005, securing over 20 external research grants and producing significant collaborative outputs with students.
His educational background includes:
- B.A. in Biology from Hiram College
- M.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Mississippi
- Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Iowa State University
Dr. Horn's research critically examines wild bird feeding behavior and anthropogenic threats to avian populations, particularly collisions with windows and wind turbines. These investigations advance conservation strategies within ornithology and environmental science, emphasizing practical ecological solutions.
He has mentored students in generating over 70 professional presentations and 10 scientific publications, demonstrating exceptional commitment to undergraduate research. His sustained external funding reflects high regard for his work in avian ecology and conservation biology.
