David Hitchcock is a Senior Lecturer in History at Canterbury Christ Church University, within the School of Arts, Humanities, Media and Creative Digital. His current and past administrative roles include:
- Current: Course Director for the History Subject Suite (BA)
- Previous: Administrator for the British Studies exchange study programme
- Previous: Director of the taught MA MEMS (Medieval and Early Modern Studies) programme
- Previous: School Director of Recruitment
His research focuses on poverty, homelessness, and vagrancy in early modern England and the British Atlantic world. He is currently developing a book project titled 'The Ends of Poverty, c. 1600-1800', which will explore utopian imaginings, colonial displacement, and architectural and environmental design related to poverty during this period. His teaching covers the broad social and cultural contours of early modern Europe, Atlantic colonialism, and social problems in England from 1600 to 1800.
Dr. Hitchcock supervises several doctoral candidates and teaches at MA level in history and medieval and early modern studies.
