Dr. David Heyne is an Associate Professor in Developmental and Educational Psychology at Leiden University’s Institute of Psychology, within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. His research focuses on interventions for school refusal in adolescents with anxiety and depression, emphasizing parental and school staff involvement. He teaches courses in developmental psychopathology and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Previously, he held roles at Monash University (Australia), including clinical services management and senior lecturing. His work explores typologies of school absenteeism and interventions for students with intellectual disabilities. He contributes to projects like the @School initiative and has collaborated internationally on defining school refusal frameworks.
