David Heinrichs

David Heinrichs is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, where he leads the Heinrichs Lab focused on molecular pathogenesis of multi-drug resistant bacteria. His research program investigates nutrient competition at the host-pathogen interface, particularly how Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) scavenges essential nutrients like iron and amino acids during infection.

His educational background includes a PhD from Queen's University, Canada, followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Guelph, Canada. The Heinrichs Lab employs molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and infection models to study bacterial virulence mechanisms, with emphasis on host-pathogen interactions involving macrophages and other immune cells.
