David Guzman is a researcher at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in the Department of Informatics, specifically working within the Chair of Connected Mobility (I11). His research focuses on distributed systems, internet decentralization, and consensus protocols. He teaches courses on Future Internet Protocols, Decentralization and Consolidation, and Internet Measurements.
Dr. Guzman received his education in Information Technology from Technische Universität Berlin and Sorbonne Université, following an electronics engineering degree. His professional journey includes work at Huawei Research, the Information Theory Group at Freie Universität Berlin, the Ministry of Telecommunications, and the Central Bank of Ecuador where he contributed to the development of Ecuador's first Central Bank Digital Currency (Dinero Electrónico).
His research interests center around the decentralization of the internet, distributed systems and consensus mechanisms, and multicast randomized protocol design. Guzman's work explores how network infrastructure can better support distributed consensus systems, with particular focus on improving communication efficiency, reducing latency, and ensuring finality in consensus processes. His research bridges theoretical networking concepts with practical implementations in blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
Analysis of Guzman's publication record reveals a strong focus on the intersection of networking infrastructure and distributed consensus systems. His recent work examines how multicast communication paradigms could improve the efficiency of permissionless distributed consensus at internet scale, addressing issues of communication cost, performance delays, and lack of finality that plague current peer-to-peer approaches. His research trajectory shows increasing specialization in network support for blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.
Dr. Guzman has made significant contributions to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), authoring the Internet-Draft 'Multicast Applicability for Distributed Consensus Systems' which proposes novel approaches to improving distributed consensus through network-level support.
As part of the Connected Mobility research group at TUM, Guzman collaborates with Professor Jörg Ott and other researchers on advancing the state of internet protocols, particularly in the areas of decentralization and distributed systems. His work has practical implications for blockchain technologies, internet infrastructure, and the future evolution of decentralized networks.
