David Griffith

David Griffith is a Senior Lecturer in Anaesthesia, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the Usher Institute and College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. He serves as an Honorary Consultant in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine since 2014 and chairs the MSc in Critical Care Steering Group.

• Chief Investigator for the NIHR/MRC-funded INTACT2 trial
• Co-investigator in projects like human ACE2 transgenic pigs for COVID-19 research
• Active in rehabilitation science and inflammation studies post-critical illness

His research explores unresolved systemic inflammation's impact on muscle function recovery, with a focus on ICU survivors' physical rehabilitation. Recent work includes trials on retinal imaging for shock resuscitation and anaemia management post-intensive care.

Scientific awards include the Principal's Medal (2020). Collaborative grants span the Jon Moulton Foundation, BBSRC, and Scottish Executive. He leads the RECOVER randomized clinical trial and contributes to medical education advancements.
