Professor David Gracey is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Medicine, Central Clinical School, and serves as a Senior Staff Specialist Renal and Renal Transplant Physician at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He is a member of the Charles Perkins Centre and maintains clinical practice at Holdsworth House Medical Practice, with a focus on HIV Management in Australasia.
Professor Gracey's primary research interests center on the intersection of HIV infection and kidney disease, renal transplantation, and immunology. His work particularly focuses on kidney disease in patients with chronic viral infections including HIV, HCV, and HBV, especially those requiring dialysis or transplantation. He has developed significant expertise in the renal effects of antiretroviral therapy and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention.
His publication record over the past 15 years reveals a consistent research trajectory examining renal complications in HIV patients, with increasing emphasis on global health applications, particularly through collaborations in Zimbabwe. Recent work demonstrates methodological sophistication with validation studies of renal risk scores and comparative analyses of glomerular filtration rate estimation equations in HIV populations.
