Dr. David Gortler is a Research Assistant Professor at The Catholic University of America's Busch School of Business and a Scholar at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C. His work focuses on FDA oversight, pharmaceutical regulatory policies, and ethical advancements in drug testing. Previously, he held academic roles including Professor of Pharmacology at Yale University School of Medicine (2004–2008) and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at Georgetown University (2010–2014). He also served as an FDA Medical Officer (2007–2011) and on the FDA’s Senior Executive Leadership Team as a senior advisor to the FDA Commissioner.
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy/Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Arizona; Clinical practice residency at Columbia University; Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Vascular Medicine Research and Molecular Biology at Yale University School of Medicine.
Research interests include FDA accountability, pharmaceutical supply chains, drug safety, and replacing animal testing with Organ-on-a-Chip (OOC) technology. He advocates for ethical reforms in regulatory science and public health policy.
