David Gill is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of East Anglia's School of History and Art History, with additional roles as Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton and Honorary Professor at the University of Kent. His research focuses on archaeological ethics, the history of collecting, and heritage economics. He has held prior positions at Swansea University, the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the British School at Rome, and served on UK heritage policy initiatives like the Westminster Cultural Property APPG.
Key achievements include the 2023 IAASF Cultural Heritage Protection Initiative Award and the 2012 AIA Outstanding Public Service Award. His works include books on Winifred Lamb, Dr. John Disney, and the ethics of cultural property. He led projects such as the Eastern Academic Research Consortium, analyzing heritage's economic impact in East Anglia and Greece.
David is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) and the Society of Antiquaries (FSA), and chairs the RSA Heritage Network. His advisory roles include judging awards for Suffolk museums and contributing to heritage strategies in Suffolk and St. Edmund’s Abbey. His current research explores the Athenian Acropolis’s Temple of Athena Nike and the economic benefits of UNESCO sites.
