David Franklin

Prof. David Franklin is an Associate Professor for Neuromuscular Diagnostics at TUM School of Medicine and Health since 2016. His research integrates computational and experimental approaches to understand sensorimotor control, utilizing robotics and virtual reality. He holds a PhD in Neuroscience from Simon Fraser University (2005) and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, supported by a Wellcome Trust Fellowship (2010).

Franklin's research focuses on the physiological and computational basis of neuromuscular movement control, examining how the nervous system adapts to environmental changes. Key areas include motor learning dynamics, haptic communication in human-robot collaboration, and neural mechanisms underlying sensorimotor adaptation.

His awards include the Best Paper Award at WeRob Conference (2018), the Governor General of Canada’s Gold Medal (2005), and the Japanese Neural Network Society Research Award (2002). His work spans biomechanical modeling, neuroprosthetics, and clinical applications of sensorimotor research.

Franklin collaborates on grants related to digital twin methodologies and musculotendon modeling, contributing to advancements in wearable sensor technology and human-robot interaction.
