David T. Felson, MD, MPH, is a Professor Adjunct in the Department of Medicine, Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology Section at Yale School of Medicine. He specializes in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis research, focusing on prevention, treatment mechanisms, and outcome measurement. His work includes landmark studies like the Framingham Osteoarthritis Study and the Beijing Osteoarthritis Study, identifying risk factors such as obesity and biomechanical contributors to joint disease.
Education: AB from Harvard College (1974), MD from Johns Hopkins University (1978), MPH from Boston University (1984). Board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
Research interests span structural MRI analysis, synovitis and bone marrow lesions as pain sources, and standardized outcome metrics for rheumatoid arthritis trials. He pioneered the concept of core outcome sets, now widely adopted in clinical research.
