David E. Lewis

David E. Lewis is the Rebecca Webb Wilson University Distinguished Professor at Vanderbilt University, holding joint appointments in the Department of Political Science and the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations (Peabody College). He researches American politics, focusing on the presidency, executive branch dynamics, and public administration. Lewis co-directs the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions and has authored influential books on presidential appointments and agency design. His work bridges scholarly analysis and practical governance, appearing in outlets like the New York Times and Washington Post.

Before Vanderbilt, Lewis was an assistant professor at Princeton University and the College of William and Mary. He earned his PhD in Political Science from Stanford University.
