David Craig is an Associate Professor of Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California. He specializes in global media industries, creator culture, and digital platforms, with a focus on social media entertainment and China’s wanghong phenomena. He directs the Global Media and Communication MA program and co-directs a dual master’s program with the London School of Economics. Craig has held visiting scholar positions at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center (2023-2024) and via a Global Fulbright Scholarship in Thailand, Chile, and Israel (2023-2025). His research bridges political economy, cultural studies, and platform governance, analyzing creator economies across U.S. and Chinese platforms.
His notable works include Wanghong as Chinese Social Media Entertainment Industry (2021), Creator Culture: An Introduction to Global Social Media Entertainment (2021), and Social Media Entertainment (2019). He has organized international conferences on topics like creator governance and activism, and his research explores NGO partnerships with social media creators for social impact.
