معرفی
David Crabb is Professor of Statistics and Vision Research at City, University London, within the School of Health Sciences, Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences. He leads the CRABB Lab, a multidisciplinary research group focusing on vision measurement, glaucoma, and medical statistics. He has been at City since 2005, following academic roles at University College London and the University of Nottingham.
His educational background includes a PhD in Visual Science, an MSc, and degrees in Mathematics and Statistics from Oxford and Sheffield. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, underscoring his expertise in statistical applications to vision science.
Crabb’s research centers on understanding visual function in glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), with emphasis on visual fields, imaging, quality of life, and statistical modeling. His work bridges clinical ophthalmology, psychophysics, and data science to improve patient outcomes and clinical decision-making.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on real-world data, progression modeling in glaucoma, patient-reported outcomes in AMD, and the development of novel visual function assessments. Themes include the integration of structural and functional data, dark adaptation, and the impact of eye disease on daily living.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow, Royal Statistical Society
Crabb has supervised numerous PhD students including Robyn Burton, Luke Saunders, and Vera Moenter, and has secured substantial funding from the NIHR, Fight for Sight, Merck, and the US NIH. His grants focus on glaucoma monitoring, driving safety, and innovative measurement techniques. He is actively involved in developing tools like ReLayer for OCT analysis and tablet-based visual function tests.
His lab, the CRABB Lab, brings together vision scientists, ophthalmologists, psychologists, mathematicians, and computer scientists, fostering a collaborative environment for translational research in vision science.
