David Cardozo is a Professor of Talmud (Rosh Yeshiva) at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Yeshiva University, and heads its postgraduate institute for Talmudic jurisprudence and family law. His expertise spans Jewish law, bioethics, and medical ethics, with a focus on contemporary halakhic challenges. He holds a B.A. from Brooklyn College (1960), an M.A. from Columbia University (1968), and a Ph.D. from New York University (1974).
His research explores intersections between traditional Jewish law and modern ethical dilemmas, particularly in healthcare and family law. Notable works include Jewish Bioethics, Contemporary Halakhic Problems, and Time of Death in Jewish Law.
Dr. Cardozo has held prestigious fellowships at the Woodrow Wilson Foundation and the Hastings Center, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Jewish Philosophy. He contributes to public policy through roles like membership in the Governor's Commission on Life and the Law.
