David Campion is the Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. Associate Professor of History at Lewis & Clark College. He has been affiliated with the institution since 2002 and serves as faculty advisor for Academic Awards and Fellowships, as well as faculty coordinator for Army ROTC. His research focuses on the British Empire in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly in North India, Ireland, and the Mediterranean. Prof. Campion has led overseas programs in East Africa, Australia, and London, and is currently working on a book about the Indian Police during British colonial rule.

Research Interests: Prof. Campion’s work examines the intersections of Irish revolutionaries and Indian nationalism, colonial governance structures, and the impacts of cross-cultural interactions in imperial contexts. His scholarship has been supported by prestigious organizations including the Fulbright Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Advising & Grants: Beyond teaching, Campion mentors students through academic fellowship programs and oversees ROTC coordination. His research has been funded by grants from the Mellon Foundation and the American Institute of Indian Studies, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to imperial and South Asian studies.
Affiliations: Based in Miller Center 409 on the Undergraduate Campus, he contributes to the History department’s teaching and curriculum development in modern British and South Asian history.
