Dr. David Campbell is a Professor of Paleontology and Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences at Gardner-Webb University. His research focuses on molecular systematics of bivalves, conservation biology, and the intersection of science and faith. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, with earlier degrees from UNC and Davidson College.
- Education:
- Ph.D. Geology, UNC-Chapel Hill (Radiation and Convergence in Bivalvia)
- M.S. Geology, UNC-Chapel Hill (Eocene Gastropods)
- B.S. Biology, Davidson College
Current research projects include molecular analyses of bivalve classification, biodiversity studies in the Waccamaw Formation, and local fauna documentation with students. His teaching spans biology, chemistry, and geology courses including Invertebrate Zoology and Environmental Geology. Collaborations involve photographing fossil species and comparing them to modern taxa.
Recent publications explore freshwater mussel genetics, Eocene mollusk faunas, and interdisciplinary science-faith topics. He actively engages in fieldwork and student mentorship but no scientific awards are explicitly mentioned.
