Dr. David Calamas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Southern University's Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Information Technology. He has been affiliated with Georgia Southern University since 2013, following his academic training at the University of Alabama (PhD, MS) and Clemson University (BS), all in Mechanical Engineering.
- PhD, Mechanical Engineering, University of Alabama (2013)
- MS, Mechanical Engineering, University of Alabama (2012)
- BS, Mechanical Engineering, Clemson University (2010)
His research focuses on heat transfer, thermal management, and biologically-inspired designs, with specific emphasis on fractal-based heat dissipation systems, solar energy applications, and computational fluid dynamics. Key areas include:
- Fractal geometry for extended surfaces
- Natural and forced convection heat transfer
- Thermal radiation modeling
- Sustainable engineering solutions
- STEM education innovations
- Biologically-mimicked flow networks
The 2012-2021 research outputs demonstrate expertise in fractal fin performance (2018: Average View Factors; Mixed/Forced Convection), solar eclipse impact analysis (2018: International Journal of Energy), and bio-inspired thermal systems (2013-2015). Collaborations include institutions like Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University and Clemson University.
