Dr. David C. Young is a Professor of Classics at the University of Florida since 1989, following a tenure at the University of California, Santa Barbara (1963–1989). He has also held visiting professorships at Stanford University and the University of Michigan. His academic credentials include a B.A. in Greek from the University of Nebraska (1959) and a Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Iowa (1963).
His research focuses on Greek literature, particularly Pindaric poetry, and the history of the Olympic Games. Key contributions include challenging myths about ancient Greek amateurism in athletics and tracing the revival of the modern Olympics. His works blend classical scholarship with sports history, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
