David Bwire (Wandera) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education, Language, and Literacy at The College of New Jersey’s School of Education. Originally from Kenya, he specializes in transcultural literacy studies, examining language and identity practices among youth in globalizing contexts.

His research focuses on language practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and decolonizing educational methodologies. He has published extensively on topics like Afrocentric methodology, multilingualism, and the role of hip hop in literacy education.
Recent publications include analyses of AI in children’s literature (2024), plurilingualism in Kenyan classrooms (2018), and transformative poetry instruction through collaborative art (2016). His work spans journal articles, book chapters, and presentations, emphasizing critical literacy and cultural equity.
