David Bortz is Professor of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at University of Colorado Boulder. His research develops data-driven modeling approaches with applications to biological systems, infectious diseases, and plasma physics.
Research Focus: Primary investigations center on weak-form scientific machine learning for complex systems. Current projects model bacterial communities, infectious disease spread, and fusion plasma dynamics using innovative computational frameworks.
Teaching: Instructs courses in differential equations, matrix methods, mathematical biology, and numerical methods. Special topics include data-driven modeling techniques.
Funding & Recognition: Principal investigator for multiple NIH, NSF, and DOE grants. Research featured in SIAM News and Colorado Arts & Sciences Magazine for COVID-19 modeling contributions.
