David Bohua Tann

Professor David Bohua Tann serves as Executive Dean of the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering and Vice-Provost (Technology) at the University of East London, bringing over 30 years of UK higher education leadership experience. Previously, he held Assistant Dean roles at the University of the West of Scotland and Head of Department positions at London South Bank University and the University of Glamorgan, complemented by early industry experience as a Structural Design Engineer for projects including the Cardiff Copthorne Hotel.

His research program integrates sustainable construction materials with occupational safety, pioneering bioconcrete and bacteria-based self-healing concrete technologies while investigating human factors in construction accidents. Current work focuses on fibre reinforced polymer composites for structural strengthening and addressing inequalities in occupational health service access within the construction sector.

Professor Tann's recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a strategic convergence of sustainable materials science and safety engineering, with 70% of output dedicated to advanced concrete technologies and 30% to occupational health applications. This dual focus demonstrates his commitment to solving industry-wide challenges in durability and worker protection.

Previously, he provided public service as an Independent Advisor to South Wales Police and Home Office Interpreter.
