Dr. David Boffey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation at Pittsburg State University. He teaches courses in Scientific Principles of Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, and Kinesiology. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a personal trainer, strength coach, and fitness director. He holds a BA from UC Santa Cruz, an MA in Kinesiology from Sonoma State University, and a PhD in Exercise Physiology from the University of Central Florida.
His research focuses on strength and power testing/training for athletes and tactical populations, particularly velocity-based training methodologies. He has published in journals like Military Medicine and the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, and his work explores topics such as load-velocity profiling, military fitness testing, and cognitive function under extreme conditions.
Dr. Boffey has received several awards, including the Excellence in Graduate Student Teaching Award (2021) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association Foundation Challenge Scholarship (2021). His recent studies investigate the effects of socioeconomic status on physical performance metrics and the role of β-alanine supplementation in cognitive resilience during prolonged military simulations.
