David Blake is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science at Edith Cowan University's School of Science. His roles include teaching courses like GIS and Remote Sensing, and he has held academic positions since 2007. He holds a BSc in Environmental Management and a PhD from ECU. His research focuses on Geographical Information Systems, Fire Ecology, and groundwater contamination, with a particular interest in wetland fire impacts and urban climate data.
Blake has supervised numerous PhD and master’s students, focusing on topics like fire regimes, riparian ecosystems, and remote sensing applications. He leads and collaborates on grants totaling over $2 million, including projects on peatland conservation, wildfire water quality impacts, and regenerative agriculture.
His publications span environmental monitoring, climate adaptation, and geospatial analysis. Notable works include studies on urban greening's cooling effects, microplastic pollution, and fire impacts on dissolved organic matter. Blake’s work integrates GIS and remote sensing to address environmental challenges in urbanization and climate change.
He is affiliated with the Royal Society of Western Australia and has collaborated with organizations like CSIRO and the Water Corporation. His research emphasizes practical solutions for sustainable environmental management in Western Australia and beyond.
