David Bixler is a Professor of Jazz Saxophone and Director of Jazz Activities at Bowling Green State University's College of Musical Arts. His recent creative reemergence includes three recordings: In the Face of Chaos (2019), Blended Lineage (2020), and Inside the Grief (2020). These works reflect his prioritization of family care post-traumatic brain injury and thematic exploration of societal challenges. He collaborates with notable musicians like Jon Cowherd and Rogerio Boccato, blending jazz with classical and avant-garde elements. As a Selmer and Vandoren Artist, he also hosts the Liner Notes podcast and teaches globally.
His research interests focus on jazz pedagogy, improvisation techniques, and cross-genre fusion. The podcast Liner Notes features in-depth conversations with jazz artists, emphasizing creative process and cultural impact. Bixler resides in New York City while maintaining academic leadership in Ohio.
