David B. Rutledge

David B. Rutledge is the Kiyo and Eiko Tomiyasu Professor of Engineering, Emeritus at Caltech. His research focuses on long-term projections of fossil-fuel production and implications for alternative energy and climate change. Previously, he worked on RF/microwave circuits and antenna design.

Rutledge authored the textbook "Energy: Supply and Demand" and developed the microwave CAD package Puff. He received the IEEE Microwave Prize and Teaching Award from Caltech students.

His research analyzes historical production data to create accurate forecasts of global coal, oil, and gas reserves, challenging conventional geological survey estimates. This work has significant implications for climate change modeling and energy policy.
