David Atherton

David Atherton is Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University, specializing in early modern Japanese literature and book history.

His research explores popular literature, commercial authorship, and print culture in early modern Japan, examining how writers navigated new questions of originality, imitation, and self-promotion in the emerging print market.
