David Art is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at Tufts University's School of Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in Political Science from MIT and a BA in History from Yale University. His research focuses on comparative politics with emphasis on Europe, particularly extremist parties, the politics of historical memory, and comparative historical analysis. Key works include Inside the Radical Right (2011) and The Politics of the Nazi Past in Germany and Austria (2006). He co-convenes the ECPR's Standing Group on Extremism and Democracy and was a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the European University Institute (2008-2009).
Prof. Art's teaching includes courses on comparative politics, European integration, and research methods. His professional activities include conference presentations on topics like populism, memory politics, and democratic resilience. He has served on committees such as the Carnegie Selection Committee and the Fulbright Fellowship Selection Committee for Switzerland and Austria.
