David Andrew Wardell is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Forestry. His work bridges interdisciplinary research in applied conservation science, sustainable forest management, and Indigenous knowledge systems.

Dr. Wardell's current research focuses on shea value chains, REDD+ benefit sharing, forest landscape restoration, and community-based wildlife conservation. With over 38 years of global experience in natural resource governance and finance across sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, his research emphasizes equitable ecological stewardship and capacity development.
His career includes co-editing the 2023 Cambridge University Press book CITES As a Tool for Sustainable Development, alongside authoring 4 books, 90 peer-reviewed articles/book chapters, and 70 technical reports.
