David Amponsah is the Presidential Assistant Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a PhD from Harvard University (2015), specializing in African Religious History. His research explores intersections of religion with social, political, and cultural dynamics in Africa and its diaspora.
- Current Research: Two book projects: 'Unholy Interplay' examines indigenous religious practices in colonial Ghana, analyzing statecraft through religious suppression/appropriation. 'Enchanted Geography' investigates West African conceptions of India's supernatural powers from the early 20th century, linking colonial history, migration, and religious epistemologies.
Publications include work in the Journal of Africana Religions and an upcoming contribution to the International Journal of African Historical Studies. His interdisciplinary approach combines religious, cultural, political, and legal histories with indigenous knowledge systems.
