David Acker is a Professor and Special Advisor to the Dean at Iowa State University, holding the Raymond and Mary Baker Chair in Global Agriculture. He has a Ph.D. from Oregon State University (1989) with dissertation research in Tanzania. His career spans over 45 years in international agricultural research and education, focusing on global resource systems, rural livelihoods, and agricultural extension. He has served as a Fulbright scholar in Greece, consulted in eight countries, and led the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education.
Education: Ph.D. in Agriculture from Oregon State University (1989). Key roles include board membership at the American Farm School (Greece) and leadership in initiatives like the Center for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods in Uganda. His research emphasizes food security, sustainable development, and curriculum innovation in global agriculture.
Research interests include international agricultural education systems, the role of extension in rural development, and globalizing curricula. His publications span topics like school garden programs in Uganda, Cuban agricultural knowledge systems, and institutional reform in Ukrainian universities.
Awards include Outstanding Research Paper honors from the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education in 1997, 1998, and 1999. His work bridges academia and practice, addressing challenges in global agricultural education and development policy.
