David A. Lowther

David A. Lowther is a Full Professor at McGill University and currently works with Siemens Digital Industries Software (DISW). He has been a key figure in computational electromagnetics since joining McGill in 1979 and became a Fellow of the IEEE in 2017.

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Brighton Polytechnic (1973)

His research spans numerical analysis of electromagnetic fields, artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in electrical machine design, and magnetic material modeling. He co-founded Infolytica Corporation in 1978, a leader in finite element analysis tools for electromagnetic devices.

Lowther has contributed to over 300 journal articles and two books. He has held leadership roles in conferences such as the International Compumag Society (President) and CEFC Conference committee.
