David A. Kirsch is an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business and the College of Information Studies (by courtesy) at the University of Maryland. His research bridges innovation studies, business history, and digital humanities, focusing on technological failure, industry emergence, and archival preservation.

Research Interests: Kirsch investigates how industries evolve through technological innovation and failure, with a particular emphasis on the historical context of entrepreneurship. His work incorporates computational methods for analyzing born-digital archives, especially email datasets.
Scientific Awards: He received the IEEE Life Members Prize (2003) for his article on the Electric Vehicle Company. He has secured research grants from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Library of Congress, AT&T Foundation, and Hewlett Foundation.
Publications: His books include Bubbles and Crashes: The Boom and Bust of Technological Innovation (2019) and The Electric Vehicle and the Burden of History (2000). Current projects involve creating a digital archive of the Dot Com Era.
