David A. Gabriel is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Brock University. His research focuses on understanding neuromuscular control mechanisms through biomechanical and electrophysiological techniques, with emphasis on motor learning, therapeutic exercise in physical medicine, and signal processing for motor unit analysis. He holds a PhD in Biomechanics from McGill University (1995) and completed postdoctoral work at the Mayo Clinic in orthopedic biomechanics. A Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology and the American College of Sports Medicine, he also serves as a third-chair trumpet in the Brock Wind Ensemble.
His teaching includes courses like Clinical Biomechanics and Functional Assessment of the Neuromuscular System. Key research contributions include studies on muscle fatigue, motor unit discharge rate modulation, and the effects of temperature on neuromuscular performance. His work bridges experimental physiology with clinical applications, particularly in rehabilitation contexts.
- Awards: Fellowships from National Academy of Kinesiology & American College of Sports Medicine
- Professional Affiliations: International Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology, IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society
Publications span electromyography analysis, motor learning interventions, and interdisciplinary environmental engineering projects. His research highlights the interplay between neural control and biomechanical outcomes in health and disease.
