David A. Foster is an Associate Professor in Multimedia and Photojournalism at Kent State University's School of Media and Journalism, housed within the College of Communication & Information. He holds a Master of Arts in Journalism Education (2014) and a B.S. in Photojournalism (2009) from Kent State, supplemented by a Master's Certificate from the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies (2010).
His research focuses on integrating emerging technologies like AI into creative education and documentary storytelling. Notable projects include the Rooted Layers exhibit, co-curated with students, which juxtaposes historical Black student life photography with modern perspectives, and his work as a Design Innovation Faculty Fellow exploring AI's role in media education.
Foster mentors students in ethical media practices and innovative technical skills, emphasizing hands-on learning. His collaborations include the Skidmark Garage community motorcycle initiative and the Motogo educational program, applying STEAM principles to youth development through motorcycle rebuild projects.
