David A. Dittfurth

David A. Dittfurth is a Professor of Law at St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he has taught since 1975. He previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (1989–1993). His career includes legal practice, military service in Vietnam, and academic roles at Indiana University School of Law and the Law Research Corporation. He holds a B.A., J.D., and LL.M. from the University of Texas, Austin.

His research focuses on civil restitution, federal civil procedure, equal protection, and law’s role in societal change. Notable works include LEARNING CIVIL PROCEDURE (2007) and THE CONCEPTS AND METHODS OF FEDERAL CIVIL PROCEDURE (1999). His articles address topics such as constructive trusts, unjust enrichment, and judicial reasoning.

Publications reflect expertise in state and federal legal systems, procedural law, and socio-legal dynamics. His teaching spans Advanced Constitutional Law, Civil Restitution, and Remedies courses.
