David A Morrish is a Senior Fashion Academic and Student Experience Lead at the Department of Art and Design, part of the College of Social Sciences and Arts at Sheffield Hallam University. He specializes in sustainable fashion design, digital embroidery, and the integration of CADCAM technologies with traditional craftsmanship. His work emphasizes quality, exclusivity, and sustainability in fashion, with a focus on enhancing emotional connections to garments through pedagogy and storytelling.
David holds a BA, MA, and PGcert, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the SHU Inspirational Teacher of the Year (2019) and twice winner of the Wilcom Digital Embroiderer of the Year. His research explores sustainable tailoring, product lifecycle extension, and innovative business models for printed tailoring in the 21st century.
He teaches courses such as Fashion Design, Fashion Management and Communication, and MA Design, with a focus on modules like Fashion Fundamentals and Exploration, Application & Realisation. His research affiliations include the Art and Design Research Centre and Culture and Creativity Research Institute, where he leads projects sponsored by Janome UK, GS-UK Ltd, and Wilcom.
David’s creative outputs include exhibitions showcasing digital embroidery art and publications such as Digital Embroidery Painting with Threads (2025). He also serves as an External Examiner and runs Kingfly, a venture exploring sustainable printed tailoring models.
